Toilet Flange, an Important Part of the Toilet

Toilet Flange or also known as closet flange is a fitting pipe that attaches the toilet to the floor then connects it to sewer drainpipes. Usually, to drive the floor and the toilet together, we need to use bolts by taking effect on the closet flange’s hole. This flange attaches the the toilet to the sewer, and it secures the toilet towards the floor.

Toilet Flange is the most important thing of the toilet. If your toilet is installed without a flange or the flange isn’t fitted correctly, this can cause your toilet leaks. Leaked toilet can cause serious smell and also can cause damage to your home if left untreated for a long period of time.

Before starting to install a closet flange, you need to measure the pipe that comes out of the floor. This is necessary, to avoid you purchase the wrong size. After you have the correct flange, you have also to prepare the other tools, like Adjustable wrench, Screwdriver, PVC glue, Wax ring, and Permanent marker.

Replacing a toilet flange is almost the same as installing it. You have to prepare the tools, such as Adjustable wrench, Screwdriver, etc. The steps are also almost the same. One thing you should remember, you have to make sure that the seal between the sewer pipe and the toilet is tight to prevent leaking.

Extension

Beside the toilet flange itself, there are also the other extensions of this device that also often used when installing a toilet. For example:

  • Flange Extender. This unit is placed above the closet flange itself to give it an additional height. It has round shape and usually made from plastic or other materials such as iron. Typically, this extender has four holes to pass the bolts.
  • Flange Offset. When installing a new toilet, sometimes a problem might appears when the drain pipe is quite near to the bathroom wall. To solve this distance problem, a closet flange offset is often used to move the toilet far from the wall. For instance, the function of this device is to adjust the position of your new toilet.
  • Flange Gasket. This device used to seal the floor effectively to ensure that there is no leaking in your toilet. So, it also prevents the sewer gasses entering your house.
  • Flange Ring. It very useful to prevent toilet from leaking. If you are going to install a new bathroom floor, it is also important to get a new toilet flange ring installed in your bathroom.
